The Guernsey Chest and Heart Centre LBG carries out hundreds of free blood pressure and weight checks for islanders each year, making health screenings widely accessible to islanders. The charity actively contributes towards the prevention and treatment of and research into respiratory and circulatory diseases and relies entirely on donations and corporate funding.
In 2019, Cortex developed the centre’s online client portal and has maintained it since, streamlining the digital management of client data. The portal has undergone several upgrades and continues to evolve with features that align with the centre’s accessible health goals.
Digitalisation of screening data
With the support of Cortex, the portal has done away with the necessity of physical data storage and allows the centre to analyse data digitally. Clients of the Chest and Heart can easily update their data in the portal, receive automatic recalls for screenings and choose to share their data with their health professionals, allowing for better collaboration between health and specialist groups.
Caroline Ogier, centre manager at the Chest and Heart said “The client portal makes such a difference, not only to the clients undertaking screening for cardiovascular disease but also in supporting us with future research. By analysing the data we can better understand who is and who isn’t coming for screening, such as people between 25 and 50, and consider how we reach the less represented groups in our community and those with reduced access to healthcare.”
A long-standing relationship
Jason Magee, software developer at Cortex has a long-standing relationship with the centre, and even developed its website back in 2012. “The Chest and Heart offer essential services for the islanders. With a congenital heart condition myself, I know firsthand how crucial it is to have accessible heart care.” said Jason.
Marc Beavan, software developer and co-founder of Cortex said ‘We love what this invaluable community service is all about and are proud to support the Chest and Heart with our technical expertise.”
